Love's Road Home
It was a dark and stormy night...
She could not believe this was happening. It smacked of every cliché ever dreamed up by some horrible romantic. The dark road flowing ahead of her, like a snake slowly making its way across the vast fields, growing darker as the sun sank lower in the sky, the black clouds above, covering every inch of the sky and pouring down every drop of rain they had collected during the day. Cracks of lightning break the sky in half as the boom of thunder rolls soon after the spear of light recedes again. Fog curls along the ground, creating creepy images in its mist and hiding all the potholes and mud pits that constitute the road here.
And finally, the stupid woman, drenched and irritable, trying desperately to fix the car tire in the middle of a freaking monsoon before the light fails completely. Then, of all things, a wild horseman comes bursting through the gloom heading right towards her. The beast’s nostrils look like they are breathing fire. Smoke trails behind the duo as they make their way rapidly through the fog, cutting through it like a warm knife through butter. The rider looks like a madman hell bent on destruction of any and all kind. Struck dumb by the ridiculous and yet terrifying sight, she freezes, right there in the middle of the road, with the tire iron still clinging to the last lug knot in mid-turn… What an idiotic scene!
